I saw jets of light shining from cities and villages, and from the high places and the low places of the earth. God's word was obeyed, and as a result there were memorials for Him in every city and village. His truth was proclaimed throughout the world. --Testimonies, vol. 9, pp. 28, 29. {ChS 112.2}

The Promises Prayer Package

How are you doing with the Prayer Tour?  I seem to be 'attracting' more prayer requests from my friends and family... and some very interesting things have started happening in my life.

One incident in particular shows me what a sense of humour our God has... and I do appreciate that!  Someone close to us recently moved away and has a roommate to help pay rent.  Turns out the roommate is an Adventist Christian (unknown to any of us at the time of arranging for the accommodation).  I always pray that my loved ones will be ministered to by other Christians in their lives.  This dear one of ours said, "Well, they are all over the place (meaning Adventists)-- they are all over the world" as though it were just a coincidence... hehehe...

Dorothy Eaton Watts, author of Prayer Country: A Tour Guide of the Wonders of Prayer, talks about receiving a prayer book by Adventist writer Glenn Coons that outlined the method of prayer called "Promises" (ABC) prayers.  The method for using this Prayer Package goes like this:

A is for ASK- "Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it will be opened unto you" (Matthew 7:7)  Go ahead and ask for something that God has already promised to give you! (there are 3,573 promises in the Bible-- choose one that names something that you need-- eg., wisdom)

B is for BELIEVE- "What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Mark 11:24)  Believe that God can be trusted to keep his word.  Believe that He will not trifle with you.  Believe that with Him all things are possible and He most surely will do what He promised.

C is for CLAIM- Kneel down with the Bible opened to the promise and put your finger right on it.  Read the promise back to God by saying something like, "God, You said it, and I believe it.  I now claim that promise and ask You to do what You have promised to do.  And I thank you for doing it.  Amen!"

Here are some things you can do to experience this particular Promises Tour:

  • Get out that Bible Promises Book or read any of the following passages from the Bible to strengthen your faith:
    • Numbers 23:19
    • Joshua 23:14
    • Psalm 89:34
    • Isaiah 46:11
    • Jeremiah 33:3
    • Matthew 24:35
    • Hebrews 6:18; 10:23;
    •  2 Peter 3:9
  • Copy one of the verses above on a 3 x 5 card.  Put it somewhere where you will see it several times a day.
  • Choose one of your needs and try to think of a promise that meets that need.  You could use the Bible Promises Book or a Bible Concordance to help you.
  • Go over the A-B-Cs mentioned before (above)
  • Go for more!
