ACTS is an acrostic standing for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. It is recommended by Bill Hybels in his book Too Busy Not To Pray
For anyone who find their prayers are heavy on the "gimme" side, and when you learn how to pray the ACTS prayer format, you will have greater balance in your prayer life.
Exercises to use the ACTS (from Dorothy Watts' book Prayer Country: A Tour To The Wonders of Prayer):
- Make columns on a blank piece of paper labeled " ADORATION, CONFESSION, THANKSGIVING, SUPPLICATION and write a paragraph to your loving Father under each (supplecation has to do with asking to have your specific needs met). At the end, read the entire "prayer" aloud. Then sit back and listen to what God has to say to you.
- Expand your 'adoration vocabulary'. Take another blank sheet of paper and label from A to Z vertically. Think of words starting with each letter that describe God and write them down. Use this as a guide each day in praising God.
