I saw jets of light shining from cities and villages, and from the high places and the low places of the earth. God's word was obeyed, and as a result there were memorials for Him in every city and village. His truth was proclaimed throughout the world. --Testimonies, vol. 9, pp. 28, 29. {ChS 112.2}

What's this about FASTING?

Today is the second day of 10 Days of Power-ful praying by Adventist Christians world-wide. Intense prayer will take place around the globe from 7-8:15 p.m. (that means all the time, right?)

Fasting, in a spiritual sense, does not necessarily refer to total abstinence from food, although that was the choice that many of the Bible persons made (eg., Moses, Jonah, Jesus)to give themselves the kind of focus and clarity that not worrying about food preparation and eating involves.

Fasting might mean allowing God to direct the quantities of food, and perhaps giving up or limiting certain foods. It could also mean extricating ourselves from the over-involvement in activities that prevent us from having the kind of closeness to God that we desire. What kinds of activities? The computer. TV. Shopping. Hanging out at the Mall. Competitive events. What is over-involvement? I would suggest that this happens when your focus has drifted right out of the spiritual arena into gratifying your own immediate whims and wants. Over-involvement means lack of balance... it means that your God-cup is empty and it is time for another trip to the Well...

So, fasting is a way of nourishing our Inner Spiritual Seeker... a way to regain our holism (our holy-ness).

Jesus is coming soon! Thanks for joining in with prayer and fasting as we wait on Him. Go here for suggestions for your prayers tonight.

If you have a special request that you would like prayed over by our Comox Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church community, please go to our Church site and when you get there, click on "Prayer" in the top menu bar.
